Violence is Necessary:

Those who have lost the argument often resort to violence. Not all violence is evil. There is a violence that must be enacted against evil, and when it is, it is not thereby evil. Only the morally foolish and intellectually shallow say things like: “All violence is bad; whenever you resort to violence you become like the very people you are trying to overcome.” Yeah, no. There is a type of evil that must be physically overcome. Sadly and disappointedly, there are many Christians, or at least some who claim to be, who while bellowing about the need to keep the church and civil authorities distinct, are seriously confused about the actual relationship between the two entities. Ironically, those who want to talk about keeping them distinct actually affirm a practical disconnect, and yet their affirmation instead amounts to them imposing the ethic that the church as an institution is to have upon the civil realm. Thus, they actually dissolve the two entities into each other and the hybrid that results is a useless and spineless mass of confusion. In the process they also confuse the ethic that the church as an institution is to have with the actions that every individual Christian must adopt. Let’s put it this way—there are certain people that need to be and should be killed. If as a Christian, you don’t understand this, it is because you have not read your Bible very carefully. That is not a recipe for stirring up vigilantes. It is simply the recognition that there is a manifestation of evil in the world that will not be reasoned with, gets out of control and has to be “put down,” yes, like a rabid animal. If you don’t have the stomach for accepting this truth, well, that simply means you have some repenting to do. But until you do, don’t sanctify your intellectual shallowness and cowardice with sanctimonious tripe that accuses those who do know this truth and have the courage to do something about it with wrongdoing. The police and military are necessary for any polis precisely because evil exists. And when the police and military fail to do their job, the polis needs replacements. No doubt there are some professing Christians who will immediately crow about how such statements are dangerous. Dangerous? Dangerous? Look around. What do you think life is? Dangerous? Read the Bible. Have you seen the news? There is so much more that could be said, but I have to bring this to a close. I close with this: Those who have little to no stomach for the actual physical resistance that is actually needed in some (no, I did not write “all”) circumstances are those who have not seriously reckoned with the evil of their own hearts.
